The national telecom regulator of The Philippines (NTC) has informed all operators about an upcoming change in their numbering plan. The change in the Philippine numbering plan will only affect the area code ‘02’ (other area codes will not be changed).
All national telephone numbers starting with ‘02’, that currently exist of 7-digits, will migrate to a new format having 8-digts. The identifier ‘8’will be added to all existing telephone numbers.
This migration will take place from October 6th 2019 after the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) approved the petition from Bankers Association of the Philippines (BAP) and Credit Card Association of the Philippines (CCAP) for the needed lead time to adjust/configure its ATMs and POS.
The old format will be closed and the new format will open. Please do note that during this timeframe the service on the number will not be reachable via both numbers, when the 8-digit format opens, the 7-digit format will close directly. Unfortunately, an (short) fallout of reachability during the above mentioned timeframe is possible.
